Our Story

In 2010, Tri Training Harder began as a training camp provider hosting athletes out of a base in Portugal. We quickly realised that athletes kept returning to us because of the attention to detail our coaching staff gave each of them individually, the community we were creating. In 2014, we began our coach education programme, which was the early part of the Endurance Coaching Pathway we have today. In 2019, this was formalised into an online course developing coaches and their leadership styles around the globe. Since then, we have continued to challenge the status quo and push for a professional standard of service delivery. In an industry without regulation, we wanted to raise the bar and hold ourselves accountable for excellent practice. Now, you can be coached by any of our coaches in any location and know that they will provide you with a consistent but informed direction on how to improve.

We still operate fantastic training camps in several locations, but now, we are one of the leading coaching entities in the UK and Europe, using our wealth of experience to unite scientific, medical and technological research with already well-established and successful best practices to create a professional triathlon and endurance coaching pathway that works to educate, develop and challenge coaches to attain a professional standard of coaching. The result is an honest, dynamic, yet simple new way of constructing an athlete’s training to allow them to reach their potential without sacrificing their other commitments.

For several years, we were the official coaching partner for IRONMAN UK and all its events, supporting thousands of athletes over the finishing line of their first middle or long-distance event. We also worked with the Brownlee brothers to provide coaching support for their athletes at their North and South events. More recently, we have worked with The Castle Race Series and other local events supporting athletes at the sharp end of races and people taking their first step into multisport or endurance events worldwide, merging endurance training into different cultures and levels of ability.

We recognise that every athlete we work with is a person first and that understanding is at the heart of our coaching approach. We see our athletes flourishing not just in their sport but across their lives, too. From this position of care, all our coaches subsequently apply their knowledge and experience to make a genuinely athlete-centred individualised approach to coaching.

Believe. Strive. Achieve.

Our Philosophy and Approach

Results are expected in endurance coaching. Our philosophy builds on this, and although we track every athlete’s result, we talk here more about our approach. Tri Training Harder and our coaching team will get you to where you want to go, so let us explain how we will get you there.

We believe that every athlete is unique and has dreams that can be realised, from winning as a professional to stepping off the sofa to their first endurance event. We find the best path for each individual, offering a flexible coaching and training approach to cater to athletes with different goals and levels of knowledge or experience. We have a can-do attitude, and we genuinely believe that people come to us with untapped potential that they may not know even exists. We have worked with para-athletes, people with chronic conditions and those competing for race victories. Our approach doesn’t change, and our philosophy doesn’t either. We outline this approach below.

A Safe Environment

We believe that creating a safe environment for athletes can help them improve faster. Our coaches ensure that this environment is physically, emotionally, and psychologically safe, which is optimal for learning. Health must come before fitness, and it is always through this lens that we support our athletes. Our collaborative approach to coaching transcends international borders and cross cultures. Our athlete and coach community fosters inclusivity and encouragement that is hard to find in performance environments or communities. This all comes for us creating a safe environment for all our athletes.

A Fun Experience

One of our core values is enjoyment, and this is because we recognise that when people have fun, they are more likely to learn and develop. Children learn through play, and we try to nurture this experience in the sessions we run, the camps we operate and the programs we write for adults, too – after all, we are all big kids at heart, and we do the sports because we love it. By ensuring athletes are having fun, they will almost certainly do better than if they are not.

A Deliberate Training Programme

Finally, and only after the other two steps are reached, we are able to deliver a deliberate training programme that ensures there is a balance between hard work, recovery and nutrition. We work with experts in the fields of physiotherapy, biomechanics, nutrition, psychology and many other areas to ensure our training programmes are the most appropriate for the person in front of us. With several coaches all adding to our pool of knowledge and expertise, our approach will evolve in a peer-reviewed way, meaning the programmes we present will always be the most advanced and well-informed.

Any person. Any body. Any Goal.
